Peter van de Ven

Peter van de Ven studied macro-economics at the University of Tilburg, The Netherlands. In 1984, he joined the National Accounts department of Statistics Netherlands. After several positions in the department, he became head of the section for publication, research and revision of national accounts in 1995. Between 2000 and 2003, Peter was head of the department of statistics for government and financial institutions. Subsequently, he became director of national accounts. During his whole career, Peter has always been very interested and active in international discussions on (the conceptual framework of) national accounts and related statistics. Presently, October 2010, apart from being the chair of the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth (IARIW), he holds the following positions: Chair of the EU Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics (CMFB), Chair of the Joint UNECE/OECD/Eurostat Working Group on the impact of Globalisation on the compilation of National Accounts and related statistics (GGNA), Member of the Bureau of the UN Committee on Economic Environmental Accounting (UNCEEA), Member of the Advisory Expert Group on National Accounts (SNA 2008), Vice-chair of the Steering Group on the European System of National and Regional Accounts (ESA) 2010, and Chair of the UNECE Steering Group on National Accounts. Peter has done research and has written papers in the field of among others measurement of well-being, capital formation and balance sheets, measurement of illegal activities, and globalisation.

In addition, van de Ven was recently appointed Head of National Accounts in the Statistics Directorate at the OECD.
