GRANT for the IARIW 30th General Conference in PORTOROZ, REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA 24-30 AUGUST 2008


The Nancy and Richard Ruggles Memorial Fund provides a prize in the form of a grant for an individual or individuals to attend the General Conference of the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth (IARIW). The aims of the grant are to promote diversity among conference participants and to support the development of human resources in countries with less fully developed statistical systems. The grant is awarded to younger colleagues. The next conference will be held in Portoroz, Republic of Slovenia the 24 - 30 August 2008. One grant will be awarded competitively on the basis of a paper judged by the Trustees of the Fund. The paper could be by a single author or co-authors. If co-authored, all authors must meet the criteria noted below.

Applicants for the grant should:

  • Submit in PDF format to Garner.Thesia@BLS.gov an abstract representing unpublished original work that is on a subject relevant to the interests of the Association. (See the inside front cover page of The Review of Income and Wealth for a description of the Association's fields of interest or access the website at www.iariw.org Curriculum Vitae (C.V.) for each author should accompany the abstract.
  • Submit a letter indicating that the author or co-authors are working permanently in a non-high-income country or countries as defined by The World Bank in 2006 (see The World Bank website http://web.worldbank.org.)Include in the same letter the age or ages of the author or co-authors. Applicants are to be less than 35 years of age on February 15, 2008 to be considered for the grant. The deadline for the abstract, C.V., and letter submissions is August 31, 2007.
  • In addition, separately submit the application abstract to the General Conference of the IARIW for consideration in an organized paper or poster session. See the Call for Papers for the Conference under Announcements in the current issue of the Review for a description of Conference sessions or access the website at www.iariw.org The receipt of abstracts for the General Conference is also August 31, 2007.
  • Submit in PDF format to Garner.Thesia@BLS.gov the unpublished single authored or co-authored original paper to which the abstract sent by August 31, 2007 refers. The deadline for paper submissions is February 15, 2008.

The grant is limited to $2,500 in total, regardless of the number of co-authors, and is intended to contribute to the cost of airfare, conference fees and hotel accommodation. The successful author or co-authors will be expected to present his, her, or their paper or participate in a poster session at the Conference.

All authors who have submitted papers for the Nancy and Richard Memorial Fund Prize will be notified by E-Mail and in a formal letter by May 1, 2008 regarding the status of their applications.
