Bishnu Pant
Bishnu Dev Pant, a Ph.D. from Indian Statistical Institute, has joined SAIM since 17 August 2008 as a fulltime Professor. He is primarily in charge of the research faculty of the institute. Before joining SAIM Dr. Pant worked in the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila in different capacities for more than 12 years since April 1996, and was mostly responsible in assisting the ADB developing member countries improve their statistical system. His contribution in successfully completing the 2005 round of ICP Asia Pacific has been highly commendable. He was Director of the Development Indicators and Policy Research Division in the Economics and Research Department for about two years before taking retirement in July 2008. Prior to joining ADB, Dr. Pant also worked in the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP), Bangkok as Chief of the Statistical Information Services Section from April 1986 to March 1996. Dr. Pant started his professional carrier from the then Agricultural Projects Services Centre (APROSC) where he served as statistician from 1977 to 1983. He also served as the Statistics Advisor to the National Planning Commission of the Government of Nepal for about 18 months from the beginning of 1984 to mid 1985. His major areas of expertise include statistics and national accounts.
