Ruth Meier
Ruth Meier studied economics at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and began working for the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) in the area of tourism statistics. She took an active part in statistical initiatives launched under the auspices of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO). From 1995 to 2002, she acted as director of the Swiss National Accounts and headed various groups, some of which were set up on the international level as a preparation for the revision process of the SNA (e.g. Task Force on financial services set up by the OECD). In Switzerland, she directed a major revision of the National accounts. Since 2003, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the FSO. Furthermore, as of 2004, Ruth Meier heads the division Economy, State and Social Issues. In this function, she promotes statistical developments in areas new to the FSO such as multi-factor productivity or capitalization of R&D expenditures, and actively supports the work of the international community in the field of macroeconomic statistics.
