W. Erwin Diewert

W. Erwin Diewert is a Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia. He has published over 95 papers in journals and over 120 chapters in books. His main areas of research include duality theory, generalized convexity, flexible functional forms, index number theory (including the concept of a superlative index number formula), the measurement of productivity and the calculation of excess burdens of taxation. He has acted as a consultant on measurement and regulatory issues for the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the OECD, the New Zealand Treasury, the Business Roundtable in New Zealand, Bell Canada, the American Association of Railways, the Victorian Treasury and Industry Canada. Diewert is a Fellow of the Econometric Society and the Royal Society of Canada and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association. In 2003, he also won a Killam Prize for career achievements in the social sciences and humanities in Canada.
